What is a Boston Terrier?

The Boston Terrier is a friendly, and lively little companion that is full of amusing antics. Their origins are from the fighting Bulldogs and Bull Terriers of the 19th century, and were once known as the American Bull Terrier. The name was later changed to reflect the breed’s city of origin, Boston. Nowadays, the Boston Terrier’s impeccable temperament have earned him the nickname “The American Gentleman”, a far cry from his early fighting days, and much more similar to the French Bulldog in cuteness. Despite the name, the Boston Terrier is not a true terrier as they were not bred to hunt animals in burrows, and do not compete in the terrier classes in purebred shows. They have been registered with the AKC since 1893, and are a huge source of pride for the city of Boston.
